My dog ate my book.
No, really. He did. He bit it, chewed on it, and tore up the most beautiful book I’ve ever owned, the newest devotional by Lysa TerKeurst.
This special book was a Godsent gift given to me during a time when I desperately needed the words of encouragement it held. I cried tears on its pages. I circled, underlined, and wrote color-coded notes all over it.
And my dog ate it.
Yet, after a few heart-stopping moments of staring at my book in exasperated horror, I came to a realization:
My book looked like I felt.
It was broken. It was torn. It had been chewed up and spit out. It was a perfect metaphor for my life during these past few sorrow-filled months.
But surrounded by the torn edges, brokenness, and bite marks were etched five beautiful words:
You’re going to make it
These five golden words — shining brightly on the page, like a ray of hope — revealed a promise from God.
I am going to make it.
Even if I feel broken …
Even if my world has been torn apart …
Even if I feel chewed up and spit out …
I’m going to make it. And friend, you’re going to make it, too.
God can make all things new. (Isaiah 43:19)

I have a few books that look like this too! Those dogs just wanted some knowledge, I guess. Great comparison to our brokenness.
